What should a solar water-heater installation quote include?

A collector-and-tank price can be hard to compare with a quote that also covers roof work, plumbing changes, backup heating, and startup. Which scope details make the biggest difference to the final installed cost?

I’d want the quote to separate equipment, labor, permits, and any roof or structural work, and to say what’s included in connecting the backup heater and commissioning the system. How do you usually see concealed conditions and change orders handled, so it’s clear what could add to the price without assuming a particular roof or system layout?

For concealed conditions, I’d want the quote to name the possible trigger, explain how any added work would be priced, and require a written change order for approval before non-urgent extra work begins. That makes the uncertainty visible without treating the extra cost as inevitable.
