Yeah, I’ve seen that “gritty, chalky layer” you mentioned more times than I’d like to admit. It’s wild how fast it builds up, even if you think your water’s not that bad. Don’t beat yourself up if you missed a year—most folks do at some point. The heater noises are definitely your warning sign, but nothing’s ruined beyond hope after just a year. A good flush usually sorts things out unless it’s been seriously neglected for ages.

Honestly, I wouldn’t be so quick to brush off skipping a year. I missed maintenance once and ended up with way more buildup than I expected—took forever to flush out. Maybe it’s just my luck, but I’d rather not risk it again.
