Yeah, that’s a standard stem setup. You’ll want to remove the handle and escutcheon first. After that, use a deep socket or stem wrench to back out the stem. Sometimes they’re stuck from mineral buildup—bit of penetrating oil helps. Just be careful not to strip the brass.

If you’re dealing with a lot of mineral buildup, sometimes even penetrating oil isn’t enough. I’ve had to use a strap wrench for extra grip, but you’ve gotta be gentle or you’ll round off the flats. If it’s really stubborn, a little heat from a hair dryer can help break things loose. Just watch for any plastic parts nearby—they don’t like heat much.

Yeah, I’ve run into that before—sometimes those stems are just wedged in there with years of crud. The strap wrench trick is solid, but if you don’t have one, I’ve actually used a thick rubber band and some pliers for extra grip. Not the most elegant solution, but it worked for me. Just gotta be careful not to crack anything if it’s old plastic. The heat idea is good too, but like was said, watch out for any plastic bits nearby or you’ll end up with a melted mess.
