What should a seasonal plumbing inspection quote cover?
A seasonal inspection quote is hard to assess if it only says “visual check.” What areas should it name, such as exposed pipes and outdoor faucets, and should the plumber specify whether those are just looked at or tested?
I’d also want to know whether small adjustments are included or billed separately, and how any repairs would be quoted and approved before work starts. What details have helped you compare inspection quotes without paying for a vague visit or unnecessary add-ons?

I’d put a defined scope and approval before repair work ahead of the lowest headline price. A cheaper quote is hard to compare if it’s unclear what gets checked or what costs extra; even a concise list of areas and a note that repairs need your approval would make the price more meaningful.
For example, if one hypothetical quote lists exposed pipes and outdoor faucets as visual checks, while another says those same areas will be tested, their prices don’t cover the same visit. I’d compare like with like first, then weigh whether the extra testing is worth its added cost. That makes the headline price more informative without assuming the more expensive scope is automatically better.
