"Also, insulating exposed pipes before winter hits can save you from some nasty surprises... learned that one after a pipe burst in my garage last year."

Haha, been there, done that—my basement was like a mini ice rink one January morning. Another thing I've found helpful is checking the water pressure every now and then. Had a tenant once whose showerhead practically launched itself off the wall because of high pressure. Anyone else ever had plumbing go rogue like that?

Good call on checking water pressure—that's something a lot of folks overlook until it's too late. Had a similar issue myself a while back... the pressure regulator failed, and suddenly faucets were dripping and toilets were running nonstop. Took me a day of troubleshooting before figuring it out. Always worth keeping an eye on that gauge. And yeah, insulating pipes is a lifesaver—definitely beats skating across your basement floor at 6am.

Haha, been there... nothing wakes you up faster than an unexpected indoor ice rink. Another thing I'd add is periodically checking shut-off valves. Had one seize up on me during a burst pipe incident last winter, turned a minor leak into a major headache. Quick valve checks every few months can save you from scrambling when things go south.

Good call on the shut-off valves. Had one freeze up on me too, and it was a nightmare trying to get it unstuck with water spraying everywhere. Another easy thing that helped me was just leaving cabinet doors under sinks open on super cold nights—lets warm air circulate around those hidden pipes. Seems kinda silly at first, but haven't had an issue since I started doing that. Worth a shot if your house is drafty like mine...

Leaving cabinets open is actually pretty smart—seems minor, but it really does help. Have you tried pipe insulation sleeves too? They're cheap and easy to install, might give you a bit more peace of mind on those extra chilly nights...
