I've definitely seen pipes freeze near exterior walls, even when insulation seemed adequate. One thing I've learned over the years is to check for any small drafts or gaps around outlets or fixturesβthose sneaky little openings can let in enough cold air to cause trouble. A quick bead of caulk or foam insulation usually does the trick. And yeah, nothing like fumbling around half-asleep with towels and buckets at 2 AM...been there, done that, don't recommend it.

Couldn't agree more. I've seen plenty of cases where homeowners thought insulation was solid, but overlooked tiny gaps around dryer vents or hose bibs. A quick inspection each fall can save a ton of headaches later...and sleep.
