Had a friend recently deal with a burst pipe disaster—water everywhere, total nightmare. Got me thinking...maybe I should be checking stuff before it goes south. Any easy-to-follow advice or things I should definitely look out for? Preferably something that doesn't require me crawling under the house too much, haha.

Curious if anyone else has had a DIY plumbing win lately or am I just lucky this time?

Okay, so I was chatting with my neighbor yesterday, and he was telling me about how he flooded his basement trying to fix a leaky pipe himself. Got me thinking...I usually feel pretty confident doing small plumbing fixes around the house—like swapping faucets or unclogging drains—but I admit, sometimes I skip stuff like shutting off the main water valve (yeah, I know, dumb move). Anyway, it made me wonder how cautious everyone else is when doing their own plumbing repairs.

Quick poll time:

When you're doing DIY plumbing at home, do you...

A) Always follow every safety step religiously (shut off valves, wear gloves/goggles, etc.)
B) Usually careful but occasionally cut corners if it's a quick fix
C) Rarely think about safety steps unless it's something major
D) Safety steps? Um...what safety steps?

I'm probably somewhere between B and C myself. Had a few close calls but nothing too disastrous yet (knock on wood). Curious where everyone else lands on this.
