Yeah, chasing leaks in old galvanized is a losing battle most of the time. I’ve seen folks try to milk another year or two out of pipes that are way past their prime, but it usually ends up costing more in the long run. PEX is a game changer—flexible, quick to install, and you don’t have to worry about rust or scale. Sometimes it’s tough convincing people to bite the bullet, but honestly, constant patch jobs just aren’t worth the headache.

I get what you mean about patching old pipes being a headache, but is there a way to tell if you can get away with just replacing a section? Like, if only one part’s leaking, does that usually mean the whole system’s shot, or is it worth trying to fix just that spot first? I’m still figuring out what counts as “too far gone” versus “just needs a little work.”
