Tankless heaters are definitely intriguing, but honestly, I've had mixed experiences. Installed one in a rental a few years back—fantastic energy savings, sure, but repairs were pricier when issues popped up. Still,

"no sediment buildup"
sounds pretty tempting...maybe worth another look.

Tankless heaters can be a mixed bag for sure. I've installed quite a few, and yeah, the energy savings are legit—but when something goes wrong, parts and repairs can sting your wallet a bit. Still, the no sediment thing is pretty sweet...especially if you've ever had to flush out a traditional tank (talk about gross). Maybe newer models have gotten better reliability-wise? Might be worth checking out some recent reviews or chatting with someone who's installed one lately.

Yeah, tankless units have their perks, but honestly, I've seen plenty of newer models still run into reliability hiccups. Sure, they've improved a bit, but the complexity of electronics and sensors means there's always something that can glitch out. Personally, I still lean toward high-quality traditional tanks with proper maintenance—flush 'em yearly, swap anode rods when needed, and they'll last ages without much fuss. Tankless is cool tech-wise, but simpler can sometimes save you headaches down the road.

Totally get where you're coming from on the tankless vs traditional debate. I've had a tankless unit for about 4 years now, and while I love the endless hot water (especially when family visits), it's definitely not been hassle-free. Had a sensor issue last winter that left us with lukewarm showers for a few days until we got it sorted out—thankfully under warranty, but still annoying.

On the flip side, my parents have had their traditional tank heater going strong for almost 15 years now. Dad's pretty meticulous about maintenance though—he flushes it religiously every year and checks the anode rod regularly. So yeah, simpler tech can definitely be less headache-inducing if you're willing to put in a little routine care.

Either way, congrats on quieting down those noisy pipes! Plumbing issues are always satisfying to solve... feels like a huge win when you finally get peace and quiet again.

Had a similar experience with tankless myself. Installed one about two years ago, and yeah, endless hot water is great—especially when the kids decide to take marathon showers—but it's definitely not set-and-forget. Had an ignition issue pop up last fall right as temps started dropping. Took me a weekend of troubleshooting before realizing it was just a clogged intake filter... felt pretty dumb after that one.

Before this, I had a traditional tank heater for over 12 years without any major hiccups. Did basic maintenance like flushing it every year or two, but honestly wasn't super diligent about it. Still lasted way longer than I expected. Guess there's something to be said for simpler tech.

As for noisy pipes, congrats on sorting that out. Had some banging pipes myself a while back—turned out to be loose brackets in the crawlspace causing vibrations every time someone turned off the faucet quickly. Tightened them up and added some foam insulation around the pipes... instant silence. Definitely one of those oddly satisfying homeowner wins.

Anyway, glad you got your plumbing sorted—nothing beats finally getting rid of those annoying house noises.
