I’ve definitely been guilty of the “crank it down tighter” approach too—funny how that always seems to backfire. I’ve used old mouse pads in a pinch for the same reason, so no judgment here. Honestly, half the time I think the best home fixes are the ones that don’t cost a dime. As for stud finders, I swear mine’s only accurate when I’m not actually trying to hang anything important. The knock-and-pray method has saved me more times than I’d like to admit... drywall hides a lot of sins, right?

Yeah, drywall covers a lot more than I’d like to admit, but sometimes I worry about what’s lurking behind it. I’m always nervous about over-tightening stuff—had a pipe crack once from that. Now I use rubber grommets or pipe insulation scraps instead of random fabric, just for peace of mind. Stud finders though... they’re hit or miss. I still tap and listen, but I try to double-check with a small nail before going all in.

Totally get where you’re coming from—drywall hides all sorts of surprises. I’ve had my share of “what the heck is that?” moments after opening up a wall. Using rubber grommets or insulation scraps is a smart move, way better than just stuffing in whatever’s handy. And yeah, stud finders are pretty unreliable for me too. I usually go with the tap-and-nail method, even if it takes a bit longer. It’s worth it to avoid hitting something expensive. You’re not alone in being cautious—better safe than sorry, especially when it comes to pipes.

Drywall’s like a mystery box—never know what you’ll find behind it. I tried a stud finder once and it beeped at my cat, so I’m back to the old tap-and-hope method. Rubber grommets are a game changer for noisy pipes, though. I used to just wedge in bits of cardboard (don’t judge), but insulation scraps actually work way better. Pipes are sneaky... they’ll rattle just to mess with you, I swear.

You’re not wrong about drywall being a total wild card—every time I open one up, I half expect to find a note from the last guy who gave up. Rubber grommets really do make a difference for pipe noise, though. I’ve seen folks use everything from old socks to foam pool noodles, but insulation scraps are a solid move. Honestly, whatever works to keep those pipes from rattling at 2am... you’re doing it right.
