Was watching the local news earlier and they had a story about some guy who flooded half his apartment building cuz of a small pipe leak he ignored. Got me thinking, I know duct tape is kinda the universal fix (lol guilty), but apparently there's specific plumbing tapes or sealants you should keep handy. Um, never knew that was a thing until now. Anyone here tried these quick-fix products? Curious if they're actually worth buying or just another gimmick...

Haha, duct tape is great for a lot of things, but plumbing...not so much. I've seen my fair share of DIY disasters at work, trust me. Those plumbing tapes you're talking about—usually silicone or self-fusing tapes—can actually be lifesavers in a pinch. They're designed specifically to handle water pressure and seal leaks temporarily until you can get a proper fix.

One time, I had a tenant who wrapped his leaking pipe with like half a roll of duct tape. Looked like a mummy pipe, lol. Needless to say, it didn't hold up long and made the repair job twice as messy. But I've used silicone tape myself on small leaks, and it held up surprisingly well until I could replace the pipe properly.

Bottom line: they're not gimmicks, but they're also not permanent solutions. Handy to have around though, especially if you don't wanna end up on the evening news...
