I was chatting with my neighbor yesterday about some plumbing nightmares he's had (pipes bursting in winter, leaks behind walls, ugh...), and it got me thinking—I've lived in my house for almost five years now, and I've never once had someone come by to just, you know, check things out. I mean, I fix stuff when it breaks, but I'm starting to wonder if maybe I'm just asking for trouble down the line.
Do most of you guys have a plumber come by regularly, like once a year or something, just to make sure everything's good? Or is that kinda overkill? I don't wanna spend money unnecessarily, but I also don't want my basement turning into an indoor swimming pool one day, lol. Any suggestions or experiences would be great.
Honestly, yearly inspections might be a bit much unless your house is super old or you've had ongoing issues. But every few years isn't a bad idea—especially if your winters are harsh. I've seen plenty of burst pipes that could've been avoided with just a quick insulation check or spotting corrosion early. It doesn't cost much compared to the mess and headache of water damage... trust me, I've cleaned up enough flooded basements to know.
