Yeah, older fixtures can definitely be a mixed blessing. Simpler mechanics, sure, but sometimes corrosion or stripped threads can turn a quick fix into a long afternoon. Had a similar experience recently with an old shutoff valve. Thought it'd be a breeze until the stem snapped clean off (fun times...). Definitely second the basin wrench though—total game changer for tight spaces. And you're right about main lines and gas, that's a whole different beast altogether.

Been there with the snapped valve stem—talk about turning a quick fix into a weekend project. Older plumbing can really test your patience, but honestly, it's satisfying when you finally get it sorted. Totally agree on the basin wrench, too; once you use one, you wonder how you ever managed without it. Still, gotta know your limits—gas lines and main water lines aren't the place to push your luck. Sometimes calling in a pro saves more than just time...

Totally agree—nothing beats that feeling of accomplishment. I'd add:

- Always have spare washers and plumber's tape handy; saves a ton of frustration.
- If you're budget-conscious (like me), YouTube tutorials are gold...but yeah, gas lines? Hard pass.

Gotta admit, YouTube can be handy, but I've seen some DIY plumbing attempts go sideways real fast. Sometimes it's cheaper (and less messy) to just bite the bullet and call someone who knows what they're doing...just sayin'.

Fair point, but honestly, a lot of plumbing emergencies can be temporarily stabilized with basic DIY—like shutting off water valves or patching minor leaks. Knowing these quick fixes can save you from bigger headaches until a pro arrives.
