Honestly, I’m with you on the “temporary” fixes turning permanent.

those “temporary” fixes have a way of sticking around way longer than planned
—yep, that hits home. I tried duct taping a loose pipe joint once, thinking it’d hold for a week. Ended up living with it for months, constantly checking for leaks and low-key stressing every time someone used the sink.

Taking photos before heading to the hardware store is such a smart move. I learned that the hard way after buying the wrong size trap twice… It’s wild how nothing ever matches up, especially in older houses.

Curious—has anyone here run into issues with water shut-off valves not working when you need them? That’s my big fear with DIY stuff. I always worry I’ll start unscrewing something and then can’t stop the water, and suddenly it’s a real disaster. Do you usually test those before starting, or is that just me being overly cautious?
