can I check my home's plumbing myself, or is this a pro-only thing?

Just noticed some weird knocking noises in the pipes and water pressure seems kinda off lately. Not exactly swimming in cash right now, so wondering if it's reasonable to inspect plumbing stuff myself or if that's just asking for trouble?

Honestly, sounds like classic water hammer or maybe some trapped air pocketsβ€”both pretty common and usually manageable without calling in the cavalry. If you're comfortable with basic tools and a bit of DIY, checking things like shut-off valves, pipe straps, and even draining/refilling your system could save you cash. Just be cautious if things seem rusty or corroded...that's when a simple job can turn into a weekend nightmare. Trust your gut, go slow, and don't hesitate to pause and reassess if something feels off.
