Finally fixed that annoying fridge puddle mystery
Had this annoying little puddle forming under my fridge for weeks, drove me nuts. Kept wiping it up, hoping it'd magically disappear (spoiler: it didn't). Finally decided to tackle it myself - turned out the defrost drain was clogged up with ice and gunk. Bit of hot water, turkey baster action, and some patience later... problem solved. Feeling pretty proud of myself, honestly. Anyone else got a similar DIY fix-it story that made you feel like a genius for a sec?

Had a similar thing happen with my dishwasher last year. Kept finding water pooling at the bottom after every cycle, figured it was on its way out. Almost bought a new one, but decided to poke around first. Turned out the drain hose was kinked and clogged with some nasty buildup. A bit of vinegar, hot water, and repositioning the hose did the trick. Felt pretty smug saving myself a few hundred bucks... DIY wins are the best.
Had a fridge do something similar at one of my rentals. Thought it was the defrost drain, but turned out the drip pan underneath was cracked. Quick epoxy fix and no more puddles... tenants were happy, wallet was happier. DIY troubleshooting pays off.
What clue made you check the drip pan after suspecting the defrost drain? I’m curious what helped you narrow it down to a crack instead.
Charlie’s post doesn’t say what clue pointed to the crack. In a similar case, I’d try to see whether the water is actually coming from the pan or running down onto it from somewhere above - that distinction can help separate a pan leak from a drain issue, without assuming that was Charlie’s clue.
That distinction would be a sensible first check for me too, as long as the pan and the path water takes are easy to see. If tracing it meant removing unfamiliar fridge components, I’d stop there rather than turn a small puddle mystery into a bigger repair.
