First-flush diverters actually do help, but yeah, they’re another thing to keep an eye on. I’ve set up a couple for clients, and if you size them right, they catch most of the roof gunk before it hits your main filter. Still gotta clean them out every so often, though—no real way around that. I usually tell folks to check them after big storms or when the seasons change. It’s less gross than digging out a slimy mesh screen, at least in my experience. Just part of the rainwater game, I guess...
