Finally got rid of those kitchen clogs for good

Funny, I actually tried one of those silicone strainers because I thought it’d be easier to clean, but it just kept folding in on itself and letting stuff slip by. Stainless steel’s been way more reliable for me too. I’m with you on the drain chemicals - used them once and my pipes started leaking a month later. Now I just stick to boiling water and baking soda every now and then. Not perfect, but at least I’m not calling the plumber every year...

I’ve wondered about the baking soda and boiling water trick - does it actually clear out the gunk, or just keep things smelling better? I’ve tried it a couple times but still get slow drains every now and then. Also, has anyone tried those little plastic drain snakes? I see them at the hardware store but not sure if they’re worth the mess.

Baking soda and boiling water is more of a deodorizer than a real clog-buster, in my experience. It’ll help with minor buildup, but if you’re still getting slow drains, there’s probably a chunk of gunk that needs physical removal. Those little plastic drain snakes? Surprisingly effective for the price - they’re not glamorous, but they pull out hair and food bits like nothing else. Might get a bit gross, but honestly, it’s way better than pouring more chemicals down the drain. Give 'em a shot if you haven’t already... you might be surprised.

I’ve had mixed luck with those plastic snakes - sometimes they grab a ton, other times not much. Curious, have you ever tried taking apart the trap under the sink? It’s a bit messy, but I found a whole chunk of pasta stuck in mine once... made a huge difference.

I’ve actually wondered about taking apart the trap, but I’m a little nervous I’ll mess something up or not get it back together right. Is it really just unscrewing both ends and dumping it out? Did you need any special tools, or just a bucket and some towels? Also, does it smell as bad as people say? I’m tempted to try since those snakes only seem to work half the time for me too...
