After the last big rainstorm my backyard was more like a swamp than anything else, you know... took days to dry out. I read online that a french drain can help with drainage issues. Never installed one before but I'm pretty handy and it seems straightforward enough. Has anyone here put one in themselves, and did it actually work out for you or was it a bigger headache than expected?
French drains can definitely help, especially if your yard has a natural slope. Have you checked how deep your water table is though? Sometimes the issue's deeper underground, and a french drain alone might not fully solve it...
French drains are great, but before you start digging trenches everywhere, check your gutters and downspouts first. Half the time, flooding's just from water pooling around the foundation...seen it happen way too often. Cheaper fix too, trust me!
