Had a similar situation last year—thought I could save a few bucks by just digging where I “thought” the lines weren’t. Ended up hitting an old cable line and had to deal with the mess. Lesson learned... waiting for the locate is annoying, but way cheaper than repairs.
That’s a tough lesson, but I get it—waiting for the utility locate can feel like it takes forever. I’ve always been a bit paranoid about underground lines, so I usually double-check the markings and even call again if I’m not sure. Out of curiosity, did you end up rerouting your drainage after that, or just patch up the cable and keep going? I’m always worried about accidentally making things worse when I try to fix one problem in the yard.
