I hear you on the corrugated pipe—seen way too many of those clog up, especially in yards with a lot of clay or tree roots. The “sock” is supposed to help, but in practice, it just seems to slow down the inevitable. I’ve had to dig up more than one line that was basically just a mud-filled noodle after a couple years.

PVC is definitely more work at the start, but like you said, it’s usually a one-and-done deal if you install it right. I’m curious, though—have you ever tried using gravel around solid PVC for extra drainage, or do you just stick with direct burial? Some folks swear by a gravel bed even with solid pipe, but I’ve always wondered if that’s overkill unless you’re dealing with serious water volume.
