PVC is a pain to cut and fit, but honestly, I’d rather deal with that once than keep digging up collapsed pipe every year.

Yeah, I’m learning that the hard way. Put in corrugated last fall—looked fine at first, but now it’s all squished and barely draining. Clay soil just eats it up. Next time, I’m biting the bullet and going with PVC, even if it’s a pain to mess with. At least I won’t be redoing it every spring.

- Ran into the same mess last year—corrugated pipe just collapsed under my driveway, total headache.
- Switched to PVC after that. Yeah, it’s a pain to cut and glue, but it’s held up way better.
- If you’re dealing with heavy clay, corrugated just doesn’t stand a chance long-term.
- Only thing I’d add: make sure you bed the PVC in gravel or sand, or shifting soil can crack it too. Learned that one the hard way...

PVC’s definitely the way to go under a driveway, but I’ve seen folks skip the gravel bed and end up with a cracked pipe after one winter. Corrugated’s just too flimsy for heavy loads, but PVC isn’t bulletproof either if you cheap out on the prep. Seen it too many times...

I get the point about PVC, but honestly, I’ve seen corrugated hold up fine if you’re not running heavy trucks over it. It’s all about what’s actually going over the pipe. For a basic driveway with just cars, I’ve seen folks use double-wall corrugated and it’s lasted years. Prep still matters, but sometimes people overkill it with PVC when it’s not really needed. Just my two cents...

That’s a fair point. I’m curious—when you’ve seen corrugated last under driveways, did folks use any kind of geotextile or just straight gravel bedding? I’ve noticed some jobs skip the fabric and end up with silt issues down the line. Wondering if that’s been your experience too, or if it’s just luck of the draw.
