Man, I feel you on the clay. It’s like the stuff is actively working against you sometimes. I’ve dug trenches where it felt like every shovel was just a sticky mess. You’re right about patience—sometimes it’s more about managing expectations than finding a perfect fix.

Geotextile fabric helps, but I’ve seen roots punch right through after a few years, especially if there are big trees nearby. Still, it’s better than nothing. Regrading can be a pain up front but honestly, it’s probably saved me more hassle long-term than any fancy pipe setup. Just gotta watch your slopes—if you get too steep, water moves too fast and can wash out your gravel.

One thing I’d add: double check for any underground utilities before you start digging. Sounds obvious, but I’ve heard horror stories from folks who didn’t call before they dug. Not worth the risk.

You’re on the right track though. Sometimes it’s just about stacking up those little improvements and hoping the next rainstorm isn’t too wild.
