ever wondered how faucets actually work?

Had a similar issue at my brother's place. He got one of those touchless faucets and thought it was the best thing ever—until it started turning itself on randomly at night. Took us a while to figure out it was actually reacting to reflections from passing car headlights through the kitchen window. We ended up adjusting the sensor sensitivity, and that helped a lot. Honestly though, I'm with you on keeping things simple. Less fancy tech usually means fewer headaches down the line...and fewer midnight scares thinking your kitchen is haunted.

I get the appeal of keeping things simple, but isn't it more about choosing the right tech rather than avoiding it altogether? I've seen some touchless faucets that actually save water and lower bills over time. Maybe your brother's issue was just a fluke or a cheaper model? I mean, reflections from headlights causing midnight faucet hauntings sounds like something out of a comedy sketch... Did he ever try curtains or blinds before messing with the sensor settings?

Haha, midnight faucet hauntings—that's a new one for me. But honestly, I think you're onto something about choosing the right tech rather than ditching it completely. I've had a touchless faucet in my kitchen for about two years now, and it's been pretty great overall. Sure, there was that one time it randomly turned on when my cat jumped on the counter (scared us both half to death), but other than that, no major issues.

I do wonder though—are these sensors really that sensitive to reflections? Seems like a design oversight if headlights can trigger them. Maybe your brother's faucet was just overly dramatic or something. Did he ever reach out to customer support or check online forums for similar issues? Sometimes there's a simple fix or firmware update that can solve weird quirks like that.

Anyway, I'm definitely curious now... might have to test mine tonight with a flashlight just to see what happens.

I've wondered about the sensor sensitivity too—couldn't it be intentional though, rather than an oversight? Maybe manufacturers set them extra sensitive to avoid complaints about faucets not activating easily enough... just a thought. Has anyone tried adjusting sensor sensitivity settings themselves?

Funny you mention that—I actually gave it a shot last summer when we renovated our guest bathroom. The faucet was driving me nuts, activating every time someone walked by, so I dug into the manual and found a tiny adjustment screw hidden underneath. Tweaked it a bit and it definitely helped, though it took some trial and error. Makes me wonder why they don't make that adjustment more obvious... maybe they prefer we don't mess with their default settings? Has anyone else noticed how tricky manufacturers make these little adjustments?
