Hot flow drops off while cold stays strong

If a faucet has normal cold flow but much weaker flow on hot, what’s the best way to narrow down where the restriction is? Would comparing hot flow at another fixture help tell whether it’s limited to that faucet, and what safe check can distinguish a partly closed shutoff or restricted hot supply line from a faucet-side problem? At what point is it better to have a plumber trace the hot-water path?

Compare hot flow at another fixture first: if it is also weak, the issue is more likely upstream; if it is normal, focus on the affected faucet. With the faucet off, check that its hot shutoff is fully open. If that does not help - or locating the restriction would mean disconnecting a supply line - have a plumber trace it rather than loosening a pressurized connection.
