Quarter-turn ball valves are a game changer, honestly. I swapped out all the old compression valves in my place a couple years back—no regrets. They’re way easier to operate in a hurry, especially if you’ve got wet hands or you’re half-asleep. Not overkill at all, especially for main shut-offs or anything that gets used more than once in a blue moon.

Can’t argue with that—quarter-turns are a lifesaver when you’re scrambling around in the dark, trying not to step in a puddle. I’ve seen folks wrestle with those old multi-turn valves, and it’s like watching someone try to open a pickle jar with greasy hands. Ever had one seize up on you at the worst possible moment? I swear, they wait for midnight just to mess with you... Curious if anyone’s actually kept compression valves anywhere on purpose, or is it just inertia?

- Compression valves hanging around? Guilty as charged, but not by choice—just inertia and a bit of “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” laziness.
- Had one seize up behind a tenant’s toilet at 2am once. Ended up with a wrench, a flashlight, and a lot of cursing.
- Quarter-turns are just... easier. Less drama, less risk of snapping something off the wall.
- Only reason I haven’t swapped every last one is because I dread crawling under old sinks. Maybe someday, but for now, it’s a mix of both—like plumbing roulette.

I get the appeal of quarter-turns, but honestly, I’ve stuck with compression valves on most of my rentals. They’re cheaper, and if you don’t overtighten, they’ll last ages. Had to replace a couple over the years, but nothing major. The crawl under the sink is a pain, yeah, but I’d rather save the cash unless there’s an actual leak. Maybe I’m just stubborn, but I can’t justify swapping out stuff that’s still working fine.

I hear you on the cost, but I’ve had a couple compression valves seize up when tenants needed to shut off water fast—ended up with a bigger mess than if I’d just swapped them for quarter-turns earlier. Ever run into one that wouldn’t budge in an emergency? I’m always weighing the upfront savings against the risk of water damage down the line...
