Full caulk bead keeps things visible and contained.

Yeah, I’m with you on that. I’ve seen water creep under tile way too many times when there’s just a gap. Wax rings are old school, but if you get the height right, they just work. Rubber gaskets always seem to shift if the flange’s off even a little.

Man, I’ve wrestled with those rubber gaskets at 2am more times than I care to admit. Wax rings might be messy, but at least they don’t slide around when you’re trying to line things up in a panic. Had one rubber gasket pop loose and turn a quick fix into a mop-up marathon... never again.

Yeah, I hear you on the rubber gaskets. They *seem* like a good idea until you’re hunched over the toilet, trying to keep everything lined up and suddenly it’s shifted just enough to make a mess. I’ve had better luck with wax rings too, even though cleanup can be a pain if you ever have to pull the toilet again.

One thing that helped me once was putting a little dab of plumber’s grease on the bottom of the rubber gasket—just enough to help it stick in place while I lowered the toilet down. Still, if the flange isn’t level or there’s any wobble, it’s just asking for trouble. Sometimes, going old-school with wax is just less hassle and cheaper in the long run.

Props for sticking with it at 2am... those late-night fixes always seem to turn into stories you laugh about later (after you’ve cleaned up, anyway).

Man, I totally get the frustration with those rubber gaskets. I tried one during a late-night emergency—thought I was being clever—and it slipped just enough to leak all over the floor. Wax rings might be messy, but at least they stay put if you get it right the first time. Ever notice how every “quick fix” turns into a two-hour ordeal when you’re tired?

I dunno, I’ve had the opposite luck with wax rings. Maybe I’m just clumsy, but the last time I tried one, it squished out weird and I had to scrape the whole mess off and start over. The rubber gasket at least gave me a second shot without having to run back to the hardware store. Honestly, neither feels like a “quick fix” when you’re half-asleep and cursing under your breath. Guess it’s just picking your poison...
