Faucet leaks only while the handle moves
What observations best narrow down a faucet leak that shows up only as the handle is moved? I’d want to distinguish water appearing around the handle, under the spout, or at the faucet base, but none of those spots alone seems to prove which part has failed.
Does it matter whether the leak stops once the handle is still, or continues while water is running? I’m also curious whether the useful clues differ between a single-handle cartridge faucet and a two-handle faucet with stems. At what point would you stop using it and arrange a repair rather than keep observing it?

Dry the area first, then watch where water appears first as the handle moves, when it stays still with water running, and when the faucet is off. A leak at the handle area points toward the handle assembly; water from the spout while off suggests shutoff components, but neither location proves the failed part. On a single-handle faucet, note whether movement or a particular position triggers it; on a two-handle faucet, test each handle separately. If water keeps escaping, spreads under the sink, or you cannot limit it, stop using the faucet and arrange repair rather than prolonging the test.
