What observations best narrow down a faucet leak that shows up only as the handle is moved? I’d want to distinguish water appearing around the handle, under the spout, or at the faucet base, but none of those spots alone seems to prove which part has failed.

Does it matter whether the leak stops once the handle is still, or continues while water is running? I’m also curious whether the useful clues differ between a single-handle cartridge faucet and a two-handle faucet with stems. At what point would you stop using it and arrange a repair rather than keep observing it?

What should I ask to pin down what the quoted amount actually covers, including travel, diagnosis, and labor?

If the faucet needs parts or the repair turns out to be more involved than expected, how are those costs usually explained? I’d also want to know whether the plumber will pause and get approval before going beyond the quoted scope. What wording has helped make that clear before authorizing urgent work?

I’d want to know whether the sensor just detects water near the faucet or whether the setup also monitors the supply and can close a valve. And if power, Wi-Fi, or the sensor battery fails, does it still detect a leak or shut off the water? I’m interested in how people weigh that extra protection against the added complexity.

I’m curious how people tell the difference before deciding whether to keep cleaning or replace the insert, especially when reducing plastic waste is a consideration.

Aerators vary, and so do faucet finishes. If one is stuck, what’s a safe way to try removing it without scratching the faucet or damaging the threads? Are there signs that it’s better to stop and get the right replacement part rather than keep working on it?

I know the answer depends on the fixture, but I’m curious what people use as the cutoff. Does the faucet’s age matter much, or is it mostly about the condition of the body, trim, and shutoff valves?

I’d especially like to hear how you handle a faucet that drips from the spout versus one leaking around the handle. And if the shutoff valves are stiff or corroded, do you deal with those during the same repair?
