Honestly, I’m with you—tech is handy, but it’s not a magic fix. Those leak sensors are great for peace of mind, but I’ve seen folks ignore them or not maintain the batteries, and then they’re shocked when water’s pooling on the floor. Knowing your shutoff and having a basic toolkit still goes a long way. I always tell people: gadgets are cool, but you can’t app your way out of a burst pipe at 2am.

I hear you—tech is only as good as the person using it. I had a neighbor who installed all the fancy sensors, but when his basement flooded, he realized he’d never actually checked if they worked. Guess who was running around in slippers with a mop at 3am? Out of curiosity, has anyone actually had a plumbing app save their bacon, or is it mostly just for peace of mind?

I’ve seen folks get a false sense of security from those apps and gadgets. They’re handy for alerts, sure, but nothing beats a quick manual check—especially in older homes. Has anyone actually had a sensor or app catch a leak before it turned into a mess, or do most people just end up calling someone anyway?

- Seen plenty of those water sensors in basements and laundry rooms, and yeah, they can save you if you’re not home when a pipe bursts.
- That said, I’ve also had folks call me after the sensor went off, only to find a slow drip that’d been missed for weeks anyway—so it’s not always foolproof.
- Manual checks are still gold, especially in places with old copper or dodgy joints.
- Curious if anyone’s tried combining both—apps for peace of mind, but still doing a walk-through now and then? Seems like a decent middle ground.

Mixing both really does seem like the sweet spot. I’ve seen sensors catch big leaks, but they’re not great with slow drips or condensation. Manual checks catch stuff tech misses, especially in older homes. Apps are handy, but I wouldn’t trust them alone.
