Been thinking lately about how much water goes down the drain every time we shower or wash hands... feels like a waste, you know? So I looked into setting up a simple system to reuse bathroom water for my garden. Basically, you reroute the drain pipes into a filter setup (sand, gravel, charcoal layers) and then direct it out to irrigate plants. Seems straightforward enough, but I'm wondering if anyone's tried this and has tips or better ways to filter or set it up?
I set up something similar last summer and it's been working pretty well. Your sand-gravel-charcoal idea is solid, but I'd suggest adding a simple settling tank before the filter layers. It catches hair, soap scum, and other gunk that could clog things up quickly. Learned that one the hard way... Also, make sure you're using biodegradable soaps and shampoosβplants aren't fans of harsh chemicals. Overall though, totally worth itβmy garden's never looked better and my water bill dropped noticeably.
