Saving water in the shower actually worked for me

Yeah, I hear you on the restrictors—some of them really do go overboard, especially with hard water. I’ve had to clear out more than a few showerheads that were basically just crusted shut. Descaling makes a huge difference, honestly. Sometimes folks swap out the restrictor thinking it’ll fix everything, but a good soak in vinegar and a scrub does wonders. And you’re right, if your plumbing’s newer, you can usually push things a bit without much risk. Just gotta keep an eye on buildup and not let it get out of hand.

Yeah, vinegar is my go-to too, but I’ve found that if you’ve got really stubborn buildup, taking the showerhead apart and letting the pieces soak separately works even better. I also started using a little brush (like an old toothbrush) to get into the nooks. It’s wild how much gunk can hide in there. I will say, though, sometimes those restrictors are just too aggressive—there’s a balance between saving water and actually getting clean, you know?

Totally get what you mean. I tried one of those ultra-low flow heads once and honestly, it felt like I was standing under a leaky faucet. Ended up drilling out the restrictor a bit—probably not what the manufacturer intended, but at least I could rinse shampoo out without standing there forever. The toothbrush trick is gold, by the way. Amazing how much junk builds up even when you think it looks clean.

That’s exactly it—some of those “eco” shower heads are more like a drizzle than a downpour. I’ve seen folks try everything from removing the restrictor to poking holes with a paperclip. Not always pretty, but hey, desperate times. Ever notice how the buildup inside those things can look like a science experiment gone wrong? Makes you wonder what’s in the water...

Yeah, I’ve cracked open a few shower heads and found enough gunk to start my own petri dish. Ever tried soaking the parts in vinegar? Sometimes it helps, sometimes you just end up with a weird smell and the same sad trickle. Is it just my pipes, or does everyone get that crusty buildup?
