Low-flow toilets: worth the hype or just a pain?

Honestly, I’ve seen folks swap to a fancy low-flow and still end up plunging every week... usually it’s not the toilet’s fault. If your pipes are ancient or full of buildup, even the best flush won’t save you. Sometimes you gotta fix the real problem, not just the symptoms.

That’s a good point about the pipes. I was all set to blame our new low-flow for the constant clogs, but after poking around (and a plumber visit), turns out our old cast iron pipes are basically half the size they should be from all the gunk. Makes me wonder how many people swap toilets thinking it’ll fix everything, when really it’s the plumbing that needs attention. Anyone else notice low-flow models seem to need more “maintenance” in older houses, or is that just my experience?
