I'm finally getting around to installing a new dishwasher (yay, adulting), and I'm stuck deciding between using a flexible braided hose or going old-school with copper pipe. I've heard the flexible hoses are easier to work with, especially if you're not exactly a plumbing wizard (which I'm definitely not, lol). But then again, my dad swears by copper pipes and says they're sturdier and less prone to leaks long-term.
Honestly, I just want to set it up and forget about it for a good long while, you know? Anyone have experience with either option? Is the copper really worth the extra hassle, or is the flexible hose reliable enough these days?
I've installed countless dishwashers over the years, and honestly, flexible braided hoses have come a long way. Sure, copper's sturdy, but I've seen plenty of copper connections leak if they're not perfectly fitted or soldered. One time, I had to redo a job where someone went all-in on copper and ended up with a slow drip behind the cabinetsβtotal nightmare. Braided hoses are easier to handle, and if you get a quality stainless-steel one (don't cheap out), it'll last just as long without the hassle.
I've used both plenty of times, and honestly, braided hoses are my go-to these days. Copper's reliable if you're meticulous, but one tiny misalignment and you're chasing leaks. Braided hoses just save you from headaches...and awkward cabinet yoga positions.
Totally agree on the awkward cabinet yoga, lol. Last month I helped my brother swap out his dishwasherβhe insisted on copper because "that's how dad always did it." Two hours and three leaks later, guess who was back at the store grabbing a braided hose...
