Haha, been there myself. Once used my tape measure as a scale reference—thought I was being clever—until I realized later I'd zoomed in so close you couldn't even read the numbers. Ended up squinting at the screen for ages trying to guess pipe diameter from blurry lines. Honestly, documenting plumbing is just one of those things that's always trickier than it seems...you're definitely not alone on this one.

Totally agree with this. I've found that snapping a quick photo before walls go up helps a ton later on. Even scribbling rough notes on masking tape wrapped around pipes can save headaches down the road... learned that the hard way!
I've definitely been there with the masking tape trick—saved me from mixing up hot and cold lines more times than I'd like to admit. Still, I wonder if part of the reason plumbing documentation gets so messy is because we underestimate how much we'll need it later? Like, when I redid my bathroom, I thought a quick snapshot would be enough. But then months later, staring at that blurry photo on my phone, I realized I couldn't even remember which angle I'd taken it from. Had to spend an afternoon knocking around walls and retracing pipes...not fun. Makes me curious—has anyone found a good app or digital method that's actually practical for DIYers? Seems like there should be something better than scribbles and blurry pics by now.

Haha, this hits way too close to home. When I moved into my first place, I thought labeling pipes with a sharpie would be enough—until the ink smudged from condensation. Ended up spending hours nervously tapping pipes, convinced I'd accidentally drill into something important. Now I snap multiple pics from different angles and jot down notes in Evernote. It's not perfect, but at least I'm not playing plumbing roulette anymore...
Been there myself—thought I was being clever by sketching out a little map on paper when we first moved in. Fast-forward a year and that paper's nowhere to be found, probably tossed during spring cleaning. Ended up cautiously tapping around the basement ceiling for half a day, paranoid I'd puncture something critical. Now I just take quick videos on my phone whenever I'm doing repairs...not foolproof, but at least it saves me from another afternoon of anxious wall-knocking.
