Spreadsheet tracking is next-level, but honestly, I get it. My “system” is a bunch of masking tape labels and a calendar reminder that I ignore half the time. The battery roulette is real—why do the ones in the hardest-to-reach spots always die first? If these apps ever figure out how to predict that, I’ll be impressed. Until then, paranoia’s just part of homeownership, I guess.

Honestly, I’m right there with you on the paranoia. I’ve tried color-coded tape and even QR codes, but something always gets missed—usually the thing that leaks at 2am. If an app could actually predict which valve or battery is next to fail, I’d pay for that in a heartbeat. For now, it’s just routine checks and hoping for the best...

Totally get this. The first time my water heater started making weird noises, I just stood there googling “is this normal??” at 1am. Color-coded tape sounds organized, but I’d probably still forget what color meant what... Technology’s great, but I’m still triple-checking everything just to be safe.

I get the appeal of an app that could predict failures, but honestly, I’m a bit skeptical about how accurate it could really be—especially with older plumbing. Sensors and smart tech are great for some things, but I’ve found that nothing beats just keeping an eye (and ear) out for changes. Like, when my sump pump started cycling more often, no app caught it, but I noticed the sound was off.

Color-coded tape is handy if you’re consistent, but yeah, it’s easy to forget what each color means after a few months. I started using a label maker instead—just slap a clear label right on the valve or breaker. It’s not fancy, but it saves me from second-guessing myself at 2am.

Tech can help, but I still trust my own routine checks more than any notification on my phone. Maybe I’m old school, but sometimes simple works best.

Ever had a label fall off or get smudged, though? I tried the label maker route, but in the basement humidity, some of mine peeled right off after a year. Wondering if there’s a trick to making them stick better, or maybe a different system that holds up?
