I've had the same issue with headlamps reflecting off pipes—definitely not fun. Magnetic flashlights sound like a solid alternative, but do you find they hold up well over time? I've been trying to cut down on disposable batteries and plastic waste, so I'm curious if anyone's found a reliable rechargeable option that's durable enough for plumbing jobs...

I've been using a rechargeable magnetic flashlight for about 8 months now—here's my quick take:

- Battery life is solid; usually lasts me through multiple plumbing fixes before needing a recharge.
- Build quality feels sturdy enough, but I've noticed the magnet strength weakening slightly over time (could just be mine though).
- USB-C charging is a huge plus—easy to top off between jobs without extra hassle.

Curious if anyone's tried those flexible-neck rechargeable lights? Seems like they'd help get into tighter spots behind sinks or toilets...

I gave one of those flexible-neck lights a shot last year when I had to fix the drain under my kitchen sink. Honestly, it wasn't as helpful as I'd hoped—kept drooping at weird angles, and the brightness was just okay. Ended up going back to my trusty headlamp instead. Maybe I just picked up a dud, but I'd be cautious before shelling out extra cash for it again...

I actually had a pretty different experience with mine. Picked one up a couple months ago when I was wrestling with the pipes behind my bathroom vanity—super cramped space and my headlamp wasn't cutting it (kept bumping into stuff and knocking it off my head). The flexible-neck light stayed put pretty well, and I liked being able to position it exactly where I needed without having to crane my neck awkwardly. Brightness was decent too—not blindingly bright, but definitely enough to see clearly what I was doing.

Maybe there's a quality difference between brands or models? Mine wasn't even that expensive, just grabbed one off Amazon after skimming reviews. Could be worth checking out another brand or model before totally writing them off. Or maybe your headlamp's just way better than mine, haha...

Had a similar issue myself recently—tight space under the kitchen sink, and my trusty old headlamp kept sliding off whenever I moved around too much. Ended up grabbing one of those magnetic-base LED lights on a whim, and it was surprisingly helpful. The magnet stuck to the metal pipe fittings perfectly, and it stayed put the whole time without me having to reposition it every two minutes.

Brightness-wise, sounds about like yours—not super intense, but clear enough to get the job done without squinting. I do wonder if maybe the type of fixture you're working around makes a difference. For instance, mine worked great because there were plenty of metal surfaces nearby for the magnet. Maybe if you're dealing with mostly plastic or PVC pipes, you'd have trouble getting it to stay in place? Anyway, just thinking out loud here... might be worth considering what materials you're working around when choosing lighting options.
