is it really necessary to flush out your boiler every year?

I've been thinking... say you skip a year or two of flushing out your boiler system, would that really cause serious issues or is it more like one of those "better safe than sorry" things? Curious how others handle this.

I skipped flushing mine for about two years once, thinking it wasn't a big deal. When I finally got around to it, the water coming out was pretty nastyβ€”lots of sediment and rust-colored gunk. Didn't cause immediate issues, but I noticed afterward the boiler ran quieter and seemed more efficient. So yeah, probably won't wreck your system overnight, but regular flushing does seem to help keep things running smoother in the long run...

Yeah, flushing yearly might be overkill depending on your water quality, but seeing that rusty sludge come out once is enough to convince me it's worth doing at least semi-regularly...
