"compression fittings might be fiddly, but at least you know when they're snugged up properly."
Yeah, compression fittings can be reassuring that way. Just wondering though, did you prep the pipe ends well before pressing? I've seen tiny burrs cause sneaky leaks behind drywall... learned that one the hard way myself.
I get the appeal of compression fittings, but honestly, I've had more luck with push-fit connectors lately. Less fiddly, no wrenches, and you don't have to stress as much about "snugging up" just right.
Maybe, but I've seen over-tightening split a ferrule more than once. Guess it depends on what you're comfortable with, but I trust the newer stuff a bit more these days."at least you know when they're snugged up properly."

I get what you mean about push-fit being easier, but I’m still a bit wary. Those little O-rings inside make me nervous—like, what if they wear out faster than a compression joint? I’ve had a couple push-fits drip on me after a year or two. Maybe I’m just old school, but I like being able to tighten things down and see it’s solid. Guess it’s a trade-off between speed and peace of mind.
Push-fit’s like the fast food of plumbing—quick, easy, but sometimes you regret it later. I’ve seen those O-rings go brittle if the water’s a bit rough or if someone gets overzealous with the pipe cutter. Compression joints might take longer, but at least you know what’s going on in there. I’ll admit, though, when you’re crawling under a boiler at 2am, push-fit starts looking pretty good... until it doesn’t.

Funny thing, I’ve actually had better luck with push-fit than compression joints, especially in tight spots. Maybe I’m just too heavy-handed with the olives, but I’ve had more leaks from overtightening than any O-ring issues. I get the worry about them going brittle, but in a pinch, push-fit has saved my sanity more than once. Guess it comes down to what you’re comfortable with and the water quality in your area.
