Totally agree with you on designers shadowing maintenance crews—would probably save us all a ton of headaches. I once helped a buddy replace his boiler pump, and the genius who installed it had the electrical box facing the wall. Had to use a mirror and work backwards just to disconnect the wiring... felt like defusing a bomb or something. Quick-connect fittings are great, but yeah, they're no match for bad planning. Maybe someday they'll actually design these setups with real-world repairs in mind... we can dream, right?

Haha, been there myself—nothing like trying to channel your inner MacGyver just to fix basic home equipment. When I first moved into my place, the boiler valves were installed so close together I couldn't even turn them without scraping my knuckles raw. Ended up redoing the piping layout myself. Definitely agree that designers could benefit from some hands-on experience... might make DIY repairs a little less painful for the rest of us.

Did you find it tricky to keep everything aligned properly when you redid the piping? I remember tackling my boiler plumbing last winter—thought I'd mapped it all out perfectly, but once I started fitting things together, nothing lined up quite right. Ended up having to make multiple trips back to the hardware store for extra fittings and adapters... felt like a puzzle with missing pieces. Curious if anyone else ran into alignment issues or if that's just my luck.

I've redone boiler piping layouts a few times myself—alignment is always a bit of a headache. Key for me was dry-fitting everything first to spot issues before soldering or tightening anything down. Even then, still ended up with a few unexpected jogs and turns. Curious if you ran into clearance issues around valves or pumps when you rearranged things? Seems like there's always one component that won't quite fit where you planned...

Ran into that plenty of times myself—especially with valves. Best workaround I've found is leaving extra space around pumps and valves during dry-fit. Always seems excessive at first, but trust me, you'll thank yourself later when everything actually fits...
