Yeah, I get that anxiety—tighten too little and it leaks, too much and you might crack the pipe, especially with older copper. I usually just go snug and then a quarter-turn more, but honestly, sometimes it feels like a guessing game. At 2am, you’re just trying to keep the floor dry and hope for the best. Those clamps aren’t perfect, but they’ve saved my bacon more than once...

I get where you’re coming from, but I’ve actually found that using a torque wrench (the kind with the adjustable setting) takes a lot of the guesswork out, especially on older copper. It’s not something everyone has lying around, but after cracking a fitting once, I figured it was worth the investment. The clamps are handy in a pinch, but if there’s time, I’d rather sweat a new joint—even at 2am—just for peace of mind. Maybe I’m just stubborn about leaks...
