Spare hoses are a game changer—totally agree.

I get the love for quick shutoff valves, but honestly, I’ve found that just keeping a couple of old towels and a bucket under the sink works almost as well in a pinch. Less hardware, less plastic, and you’re not adding more stuff to the system. I know it’s not as “set it and forget it,” but sometimes simple is better for the planet... and my wallet.

I hear you on the towels and bucket—sometimes the low-tech route just makes sense. I do like that it cuts down on extra plastic bits, too. That said, I’ve had a leak at 3am where I was grateful for a shutoff valve... but yeah, not everyone wants to add more hardware. It’s a trade-off, for sure.

Honestly, I get the appeal of keeping things simple, but relying on towels and a bucket is just asking for trouble if you ask me. At 3am, half-asleep, the last thing I want is to be mopping up water and hoping it doesn’t seep into the floorboards. A shutoff valve isn’t that much extra hardware, and it can save you a ton of hassle (and money) in the long run. Sure, it’s a trade-off, but sometimes the “extra” is worth it.

Totally get where you’re coming from. I used to think a bucket and some towels would be enough, but after my first “surprise” leak, I realized how fast things can get out of hand. The shutoff valve was a lifesaver—didn’t even know where it was at first, which was a bit of a panic moment. Now I make sure I know exactly where all the valves are, just in case.

I’m all for keeping things simple, but when it comes to water leaks, I’d rather have the extra layer of protection. It’s just not worth risking damage to the floors or walls. Plus, trying to deal with a mess half-awake is never fun. Even if it feels like overkill, that little bit of extra prep can save a lot of stress later on.
