Had a pipe burst last night (ugh, nightmare) and realized I need some kind of emergency plan handy. Do you guys prefer a quick, simple checklist or a detailed step-by-step guide? Curious what works better for others...

Honestly, for plumbing disasters, I prefer a quick checklist taped somewhere obvious (like inside a kitchen cabinet). When water's spurting everywhere at 2am, my brain can't handle detailed instructions... learned that the hard way last winter, lol.

I get the appeal of a quick checklist, especially in emergencies. Had a tenant call me once at around 3am because their bathroom pipe burstβ€”water everywhere, total chaos. I thought my detailed instructions taped neatly by the water shut-off valve would be foolproof, but nope... turns out panic and step-by-step guides don't mix well. Tenant completely overlooked it in the moment.

Still, I've found that checklists alone can be too vague if someone isn't familiar with plumbing basics. Maybe a hybrid approach works best? Like a super short checklist for immediate actions ("turn off main valve," "call plumber"), then more detailed instructions tucked away for after the initial panic subsides. It's saved me from late-night calls more than once, though nothing's ever foolproof in plumbing emergencies...
