Haha, midnight plumbing adventures are definitely a homeowner milestone. Had my own initiation a few months back—woke up around 1:30 AM to the sound of water dripping somewhere. Took me a good 20 minutes of sleepy detective work to realize the pipe under the kitchen sink had sprung a leak. Of course, I didn't have the right wrench handy, so there I was, half-asleep, improvising with duct tape and towels until morning.

Your son's logic actually reminds me of my nephew. He once decided our bathroom sink needed "feeding" and stuffed it full of Cheerios. Apparently, sinks get hungry too? Took forever to clear that clog out, and I learned way more about drain snakes than I ever wanted to know.

Anyway, sounds like you've got things under control now with those strainers. Good call—simple preventive measures save a ton of headaches later. And yeah, these mishaps do become family lore eventually...just takes a while before you can laugh about them comfortably.

Haha, duct tape is a classic quick fix, but honestly, I'd argue it's worth investing in a basic plumbing toolkit. Midnight improvisations can sometimes make things worse...trust me, learned that the hard way with my own kitchen flood.

Totally agree, a basic plumbing kit has saved me more times than I can count. But honestly, knowing how to shut off your main water valve quickly is just as crucial...found that out after flooding half my bathroom at 3 AM once. Lesson learned the soggy way, lol.

Good points about the plumbing kit and main valve, but honestly, prevention beats reaction every time. After dealing with tenants for years, I've learned the hard way that regular inspections and replacing old pipes proactively saves way more headaches than scrambling at 2 AM. Sure, knowing how to shut off water is crucial, but I'd rather not have to use that knowledge at all...trust me, nothing ruins your night faster than a frantic call about flooding.

Totally agree that prevention is ideal, but let's face it—pipes have a twisted sense of humor and love bursting at the worst possible times. I've been called out at midnight more times than I'd like to admit, and trust me, pajamas aren't exactly professional attire. Regular inspections are great advice, but I'd also recommend tenants know basic emergency shut-off procedures. Because when water's gushing everywhere at 2 AM...every second counts. Better safe (and dry) than sorry!
