Haha, I know that feeling—flashlight in one hand, heart pounding, hoping it’s just a leaky valve and not a family of spiders. I’m always nervous about missing something behind the walls. Ever tried those moisture meters? Worth it, or just another gadget collecting dust?

Moisture meters are actually pretty handy, especially if you’re worried about stuff hiding behind drywall. I used one after a slow leak under my kitchen sink—turns out the water had crept way further than I thought. It’s not a miracle gadget, but it beats guessing or tearing open a wall for no reason. They’re simple to use, too: just press and check the reading. I’d say it’s worth having around, even if it only gets used once in a while.

Totally agree, those meters are a lifesaver when you’re trying to avoid turning your kitchen into Swiss cheese. I grabbed a cheap one off Amazon after my bathroom faucet went rogue—didn’t trust it at first, but it actually saved me from ripping up half the floor. Not the most exciting gadget, but definitely cheaper than drywall repair.

Had a customer once who tried to “eyeball” where the leak was coming from—ended up with three extra holes in his wall and a very confused cat. Those meters aren’t glamorous, but they sure beat playing plumbing roulette at 2 AM.

I get the appeal of those meters, but honestly, sometimes they’re just another gadget collecting dust in the garage. I’ve had luck with the old “tissue paper on the pipe” trick—just takes a steady hand and a bit of patience. Not saying it’s foolproof, but I’ve avoided punching extra holes in the drywall so far. Maybe I’m just too stubborn to trust the tech every time... or maybe I just hate buying more tools than I need.
