It’s never just the pipes, right? There’s always some hidden cost...

Totally agree—last time I had a leak, it turned into a mold issue behind the wall. Ever tried using those leak sensors? I’m curious if they’re actually worth the hassle or just another gadget collecting dust.

I actually just installed a couple of those leak sensors after my own mini plumbing disaster (not quite 2 AM, but close enough to ruin my night). Figured I’d share how it went, in case it helps.

1. Picked a WiFi sensor—there’s a bunch out there, but I went with one that sends alerts to my phone.
2. Placed them under the kitchen sink and behind the washing machine—basically anywhere I wouldn’t notice a leak right away.
3. Setup was mostly painless, just needed batteries and an app. I did have to reset my router once, which was annoying.
4. Had a false alarm when my cat knocked over her water bowl... but honestly, I’d rather get a false alert than miss a real leak.

Are they worth it? For me, yeah—peace of mind is huge, especially since I’m still learning what can go wrong in a house. But if you’re not into tech or don’t want another app, it might just be another thing to ignore. Still, after dealing with water damage once, I’ll take the extra warning.

That’s exactly why I started looking into these after my neighbor’s dishwasher line burst while she was out. She caught it early, but only because she forgot her lunch and came home. I’m curious—did you look at any sensors that shut off the water automatically, or just the alert kind? I’ve seen some pricier ones that do both, but not sure if they’re worth the hassle or cost.

I checked out both types, actually. The auto-shutoff ones seemed cool, but I kept wondering if they'd accidentally cut water during a false alarm—like your cat situation. Did you find any brands that are reliable with pets around? Also, how hard was the install for the ones you looked at? Some of them seem like more work than they're worth...

I went with the alert-only kind for now—less hassle, and I didn’t want to risk the water shutting off if my dog knocked it over. Some folks swear by the Moen Flo for reliability, but honestly, the install looked like a pain. I’d rather just get a text and check things myself.
