Had a similar wake-up call last winter—pipes froze solid around midnight, and smart sensors didn't even chirp. Learned my lesson quick. Ended up insulating the pipes myself with foam sleeves from the hardware store. Took about an afternoon, cost under 30 bucks, and haven't had an issue since. Sometimes the old-school fixes are way more reliable (and cheaper) than techy gadgets, ya know?

Haha, isn't that the truth? Ever notice how those fancy sensors always seem to fail exactly when you need them most? Had a tenant call me at 3 AM once because their "smart" leak detector was going nuts over condensation from the AC—talk about a false alarm. Foam sleeves and heat tape have saved me more headaches than any gadget ever has. Glad you got it sorted without breaking the bank... midnight plumbing is no joke.

Couldn't agree more... I've seen too many sensors go haywire over humidity or dust buildup. Still, tech advances quickly—anyone tried newer models that handle false alarms better? Curious if they're improving at all.
I've had mixed experiences with the newer sensor models. Last winter, I installed one of those "advanced" leak detectors in a client's basement—supposedly humidity-proof and all that. Worked fine for a couple months, but then it triggered at 3 AM during a dry spell. Turned out some dust had settled on the contacts. They're definitely improving, but I'd still trust physical insulation methods like foam sleeves and heat tape over relying solely on sensors... at least for now.

Yeah, totally get where you're coming from. Just bought my first home last year and went down the sensor rabbit hole myself. They seemed like a smart choice at first—techy and convenient, right? But after hearing stories like yours (and having one false alarm myself), I decided to double up with foam sleeves and heat tape too. Tech is cool, but sometimes old-school solutions are still the safest bet... especially at 2 AM, lol.
