What should a quote include for a reachable handheld shower?
A quote for making an existing shower easier to use could cover more than adding a handheld shower and moving the controls. How do you tell whether the existing valve can safely support the proposed setup, and when would valve or piping changes mean opening the wall and restoring the waterproofing?
I’d want the quote to separate the fixture and controls from any valve work, wall access, and waterproofing, so it’s clear what’s driving the cost. What’s a good way to have the contractor show that the controls will be reachable and the hose can be used without getting in the way?

Ask the contractor to identify the existing valve and check its manufacturer’s specifications against the proposed shower outlets and controls. The quote should state whether the valve is approved for that configuration and whether it can provide the required flow and temperature control; don’t assume a handheld shower is compatible just because it connects to the existing plumbing. If the valve or piping must change, ask what access is needed and how the wall and waterproofing will be restored.
Wall access may be needed if the proposed valve or piping changes involve connections concealed behind the shower and there’s no suitable existing access point. If reaching them means opening the shower wall, the quote should also say how the disturbed waterproofing will be restored. Whether access is actually necessary depends on the valve and the bathroom’s layout.
