Totally with you on painter's tape. I've seen silicone jobs go sideways fast, and tape just feels safer. Plus, reusing it is a nice bonus—good call on reducing waste!

Painter's tape definitely helps keep silicone tidy, but I'm curious—have you noticed a difference in the seal's durability when you tape versus freehand? I've always wondered if the cleaner lines from taping might actually affect adhesion or longevity. Personally, I've had mixed results, so I'm still experimenting a bit. Maybe it's technique or just luck...have you had any long-term issues?

Painter's tape does keep things neat, but honestly, durability-wise, I haven't noticed any real difference between taped and freehand silicone seals. For me, longevity usually comes down more to surface prep and the silicone quality itself. You're probably fine either way...just keep experimenting till you find your groove.

Gotta admit, I was skeptical about freehand sealing at first—thought it'd look sloppy—but after trying it myself, it held up just as well. Like you said, prep and silicone quality matter way more than technique. Lesson learned, I guess...

Totally agree—prep is key. I've done plenty of bathrooms and kitchens, and honestly, the only time I really bother with taping is when I'm working with super visible areas or tricky angles. Freehand can look just as clean if you take your time and keep your finger damp (a little dish soap mixed with water works wonders). Also helps to have a rag handy to wipe off excess silicone as you go. Saves cleanup later... trust me on that one.
